New MASAC guidelines for iron deficiency and bleeding disorders

🩸 Low iron isn’t just about anemia.

People with bleeding disorders can experience fatigue, brain fog, headaches, shortness of breath, hair loss, and poor concentration—even when their hemoglobin is normal.

📢 New MASAC recommendations call for:

✅ Annual iron screening for ALL people with inherited bleeding disorders
✅ Additional testing after significant bleeds, heavy periods, surgery, pregnancy, or persistent symptoms
✅ Looking beyond hemoglobin—ferritin matters too
✅ Treating iron deficiency with or without anemia

Heavy periods and chronic bleeding can silently drain iron stores. If you’re exhausted and your CBC is “normal,” ask your healthcare team about checking your ferritin and iron studies.

You deserve to feel your best.
